The Sôl Picolit by Ronchi di Cialla is only produced in the best vintages and 2001 was the first year that they made it. The Picolit grapes are carefully selected from the Cialla Valley in the comune of Prepetto. The wine sees 1/2 days skin contact after which it is fermented using local yeasts in barriques. Subsequent maturation in the same barriques for 24 months after fermentation before bottling.
Sôl Picolit 2001 by Ronchi di Cialla is bone dry in style, very fresh and with huge minerality. Opulent and rich bouquet albeit very elegant; the floral notes are mixed with hints of chestnut and acacia honey and a marked minerality. Soft and full-bodied attack that recalls the olfactory range with coherence; the finish is surprisingly fresh and elegant thanks to the strong mineral and balsamic notes. Great austerity and character.
Best to be enjoyed with
Sôl Picolit by Ronchi di Cialla alone is a great ‘meditation’ wine but it is very well accompanied with tagliolini with roe, shellfish and cheeses, even full-flavour ones.
The Winery: Ronchi di Cialla
Ronchi di Cialla is a historical Friulian Estate and it is strictly a family business. The agronomy is made with minimum treatment with nonpolluting products, the vinification is carried out naturally. The company philosophy has always been to work only with indigenous varieties, such as Ribolla, Refosco, Schioppettino, Verduzzo and Picolit that in the Cru' Cialla find the perfect environment. After 40 years Ronchi di Cialla has a well-established reputation on the market as a producer of some of the finest age-worthy wines of Friuli.
