Gattinara Selezione is a structured red wine from Piemonte, a region in northern Italy. By law the wine spends 36 months in oak barrels, and 25%-30% is aged in barriques. Its reputation for exceptional longevity is thanks to its very prominent tannins, which is greater than its more well-known cousins, Barolo and Barbaresco.
Gattinara Selezione by Travaglini has a deep ruby-red colour with garnet reflections. On the nose it has a charming and structured bouquet recalling red fruit, blackberry, plum and liquorice with hints of vanilla, cream and leather. On the palate it is full-bodied, dry and deep flavour with a fruity accent underlined by a slight sapidity. Long and persistent aftertaste.
Best to be enjoyed with
You can serve Gattinara Selezione by Travaglini during the whole meal with strong flavoured first courses like fresh egg-made pasta with sauce, red meat, game and cheese.
The Winery: Travaglini
During the last 40 years Giancarlo Travaglini has managed to take the name of the historical wine, Gattinara, around the world. There are several DOC and DOCGs in the Vercelli, Novara and Biella provinces, but Gattinara is the best known. The Gattinara versions made at Travaglini are simply outstanding examples of Old World, traditionally crafted, red wines that age gracefully while gaining complexity as time passes.
