Trentino-Alto Adige is the northernmost Italian region, one of Italy’s smallest and multifaceted wine growing ones. Its rather authentic nectars reflect both the cultural - Germanic & Italian - and topographical complexity. The entire area has mountainous terrain (Dolomites and Rhaetian Alps surrounding) so viticulture is not possible on much of the land. However it is performed on many steep slopes where more than 20 grape varietals mature, some of them indigenous - like red Schiava (Vernatsch) or Lagrein - and some others with a German heritage (Gewürztraminer, Müller-Thurgau, Sylvaner); whites represent two-thirds of the production.
