Sicily: a ”wine continent”! A magical place to make wine because of the climatic variations, the countryside, the ancestral traditions, the terroir. It has more vineyards than any other region. 40 years ago, a few producers decided to do something about the Sicilian wines and here we are, with countless treasures. The focus has to be put on indigenous varieties such as tannic Nero d’Avola, more delicate “Italy’s Burgundy“ Nerello Mascalese or Frappato for reds; fruity Grillo (used in Marsala, the Italian sherry) or Carricante for whites. Without forgetting the less famous but still significant sweet Moscato di Pantelleria.
