    TASTING NOTES

    >TASTING<

    TRENTINO ALTO ADIGE

Pinot Nero vom Kalk by Ignaz Niedrist situated in a famed vineyard site in the village of Appiano Montagna in Italy’s North Eastern Alto Adige region. The resulting wine is a super complex, age-worthy Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) worthy of its international fame. The wine is packed full of concentrated red fruits of cherries and raspberries, but with a mineral note of graphite and an earthy texture to temper those vibrant fruits. A super smooth wine on the palate, with a good deal of mature tannin for a cool climate Pinot.

    THE WINERY

    IGNAZ NIEDRIST
    THE WINERY

    The Winery: Ignaz Niedrist
Niedrist's impressive vineyards are located on the summit of the Cornaiano village, in the heart of Oltradige, with amazing views over the Bolzano valley. The amiable and generous Ignaz Niedrist (long term 'cantiniere' at the well respected Colterenzio cooperative) has only five hectares of vines and he tends to them with the utmost precision and care.
Yields are kept very low and in good years he manages 40 hectolitres per hectare. The wine is then made in his state-of-the-art winery shed, where minimal interventionist winemaking occurs. Ignaz believes the wine has already been made in the vineyard, and he merely needs to guide it to its natural conclusion. The result of this minute scale production and careful attention to detail, is a portfolio of wines which are concentrated, complex and wondrous.
