"From Cantina Terlano with love"
Cantina Terlano winery is very well known for producing Italy’s longest-lived white wines and this is fair enough. Their outstanding white wines (70% of the production) are all DOC (Denominazione di Origine Controllata) and made from different varieties of native grapes like Pinot Bianco, Pinot Grigio, Gewürztraminer, Muller Thurgau or Sauvignon.
Every single nectar is given the time it needs to mature to perfection. It starts in the vineyards where old vines grow in harmony with nature and close attention is paid to the biorhythms; it follows with a slow maturation process that gives the wines their specific character and complexity; it ends with wines harmoniously aging for years or even decades.
This wine is so well grown that the winery’s hits are praised by the most important national and international wine experts; thus Terlaner I Primo Grande Cuvée is "the best white wine in Italy" according to the jury of the "Guida Oro – I Vini di Veronelli 2020" wine guide and one of the best Italian white wines to age for the famous journalist Aldo Fiordelli in the latest edition of Decanter magazine.
Cantina Terlano winery is one of the oldest cooperatives of Alto Adige; it was founded in 1893 when 24 Terlano winemakers decided to join forces to free themselves from the landlords' domination. Some of the wines of the vintage cautiously stored in their absolutely unique "vinoteca" collection could almost testify about it! Despite its relatively small size (140 growers, 190 ha, 1,5M bottles a year), it is nowadays one of the leading players in South Tyrol having undoubtedly a lot to do with the increasing fame of this wine-making region.
On the perfect scenery for wine longevity…
Cantina Terlano winery is located in the heart of the Terlan region in South Tyrol, at the far north of the peninsula where Alpine and Mediterranean assets go hand in hand and where cultures - and even languages - blend. The high mountain peaks protect the area from the Atlantic winds and cold northerlies while the Mediterranean climate cuddles it. With a lower level of annual rainfall and a higher number of hours of sunshine, this unique microclimate is particularly suitable for wine-growing; and it also determines the potential age-worthiness and the characteristics of the wines.
Moreover, Terlano has the terroir to produce great white wines. It stands on a rocky nature and rich in schists highly mineral soils. And the vineyards nestle like sunny terraces in a red porphyry rock of volcanic origin which gives local wines their typical character.
